Collagen

Collagen is the natural protein building blocks of the body. All of the body’s organs and tissues are made with collagen fibers. It gives the body its strength and structure. Collagen was the first of the injectable fillers for facial lines and folds and was first introduced to the public in the late 1980’s. The injectable version is bovine derived and puffs out lines and lips from the inside by acting as structural filler to the skin.

Collagen can be injected into almost any location on the face where wrinkles occur. Most commonly, it is used to fill the nasolabial folds, smile lines, laugh lines and lines of the forehead. It has also been very popular for Lip Augmentation.

Since Collagen is a protein, there is a small risk of an allergic reaction; therefore, a skin test is required for all patients who are considering Collagen injections. This will help to screen out those who are amongst the 3% of the population that are allergic to Collagen. Plastic surgeon Dr. Lent recommends that each patient undergo 2 skin tests over a 6-week period. It usually only takes about 15 minutes for a Collagen treatment and the benefits typically last for 2 to 4 months.

Lip Augmentation

During the past decade, the size and shape of lips has gained special attention and prominence in the sphere of cosmetic surgery. Enhanced, full, sensuous lips have become the accepted standard as a characteristic of beauty. Great emphasis has been placed on the full lip in glamour and fashion magazines, which has influenced millions of women to achieve this look. Lip enhancement gained particular popularity in the late 1980’s with the invention and availability of Collagen. Over the past decade, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeons, such as Dr. Warren Lent, have looked for a variety of ways to achieve this look with products and methods that are both safe and long lasting. Today the most popular techniques include Hylaforms, such as Restylane and (Juvaderm, Collagen, and Fat injection.

Lip augmentation is an excellent, minimally invasive technique used to augment thin lips and improve the shape of one’s lips. Thin lips can appear at any age, while changes in shape and the appearance of fine wrinkles can be a function of the aging process. This method can be used to rebuild volume as well as fill in fine lines around the mouth. A lush, sensuous and youthful look is quickly achievable. As with all Plastic Surgery, the goal is to improve self-image and, in turn, invigorate self-confidence.
